The book chronicles their busy life, eventually coming together in one epic conclusion that changes Tom's life forever.

Rated 11+ for severe racism characteristic of the American South pre-Civil War and the use of racist language towards African Americans and Native American people groups, graphic violence and murder, description of confinement and starvation, alcohol and tobacco use, and child abuse and neglect.
