Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, a hobbit, is perfectly happy with his small life in the Shire. That is, until the old wizard Gandalf comes knocking on his door asking Bilbo to join an epic quest to defeat the evil dragon Smaug under the Lonely Mountain and restore the ancient dwarven treasure horde. Bilbo vehemently declines- only for thirteen dwarves to show up at his door anyway. Bilbo is dragged on this adventure as the company's burglar and finds himself traversing with spiders, trolls, elves, strange rings, and eventually a wicked and fiery beast. But more is hanging on this treasure than riches, and as the dragon comes closer to being defeated, the entire future of Middle Earth hangs in the balance.
